A good tourism aerial sellS the experience AND the scenery
Establish where the visitor is going
Aerial imagery is strongest when it helps somebody understand the destination: coastline, mountains, town, grounds, approach, nearby landscape or the relationship between several parts of a visitor attraction.
Show the experience as well as the location
A beautiful empty landscape can be useful, but visitors may also need to understand what they can actually do there. Trails, outdoor activity, accommodation, gardens, attractions or event spaces can be incorporated where the flight can be carried out safely.
Capture material for more than one platform
A wide website hero, brochure photograph, short social clip and horizontal promotional sequence may need different framing. Agreeing the intended uses beforehand helps the flight produce a more flexible campaign library.
Use people carefully rather than filling every shot
Visitors can give scale and energy to a destination, but aerial work around people needs operational planning. Sometimes an early, quieter shoot produces the strongest location imagery; other shots may be coordinated around controlled activity.
Think beyond one sunny afternoon
A destination may need material for several seasons or campaigns. Where the brief justifies it, coverage can be planned as separate visits rather than trying to make one weather window represent the entire visitor experience.

STILLS AND VIDEO DO DIFFERENT JOBS
Capture both when the campaign genuinely needs both
Aerial photography gives tourism teams strong individual frames for websites, brochures, press, listings and paid campaigns. Aerial video adds movement, reveals and transitions that can introduce a location in a promotional film or short social campaign.
Trying to turn one format into the other later is usually a compromise. If both are required, the flight can be planned so stills receive proper attention rather than being grabbed between video moves.
For larger campaigns involving interviews, ground cameras, sound, presenters or a complete promotional film, use South Wales Video’s marketing video service.
FILMING A PLACE THAT IS OPEN TO VISITORS
Tourism locations need practical timing as well as attractive weather
The prettiest time of day is not always the easiest time to fly. Visitor numbers, opening times, access and the particular shots required all influence the plan.
Early or quieter access can transform the shoot
Where possible, filming before normal visitor activity can provide cleaner establishing shots and simpler operating conditions. Activity can then be added deliberately where it improves the campaign.
Public spaces cannot simply be cleared for the drone
The practical operation has to account for people, roads, neighbouring property and any other restrictions around the location. The shot plan may need to change rather than forcing an unsafe or unrealistic camera move.
Weather affects the marketing value as well as flight safety
A flight may be technically possible in flat or changing conditions but still produce weak destination marketing. Where the campaign timetable allows, a useful weather window is part of the creative planning.
Heritage and sensitive locations may need extra coordination
Historic sites, protected locations and busy attractions can have access or operational requirements beyond ordinary airspace checks. Send the location early enough for any necessary coordination to be identified.

TOURISM DRONE FAQ
Practical questions before booking destination aerial content
Send the exact attraction, accommodation or destination location for advice based on the real site.
Do you work with tourism businesses as well as destination organisations?
Yes. Aerial work can be commissioned for individual accommodation businesses, attractions and venues as well as larger destination or regional campaigns.
Can you provide tourism photography and video during the same visit?
Yes. If both are important, the shot plan should allow proper time for still compositions as well as moving footage rather than treating one format as an afterthought.
Can you film while an attraction is open to visitors?
Potentially, but visitor numbers and the layout of the site affect the operation. Quieter access or a planned filming window may produce both safer operating conditions and cleaner marketing imagery.
Can people be included in tourism drone footage?
Sometimes, depending on the aircraft, location and operating plan. If people or a particular activity are important to the campaign, describe the intended shot when requesting the quote.
Can you produce a complete tourism promotional film?
Drone South Wales can supply the aerial element or an aerial-only edit. For a full campaign requiring interviews, presenters, ground cameras, sound and wider production, use South Wales Video’s marketing video service.
Can you film heritage sites and historic attractions?
Potentially. Access, site ownership, visitors, local restrictions and the exact location all need to be assessed. Send the location early enough for any extra coordination to be identified.
What if the weather is safe to fly but looks poor for tourism marketing?
Those are two different questions. A flight can be technically possible while the conditions are visually poor for a destination campaign. Where the schedule allows, the shoot can be planned around a better marketing weather window.
Can you cover several tourism locations for one campaign?
Yes. Send the locations together. Multi-location work can be planned around geography, weather, access times and the amount of coverage required at each destination.
Can raw aerial footage be supplied to our agency?
Yes. Organised source footage can be supplied for an external agency or in-house editor, or graded clips and finished aerial edits can be delivered instead.
Do you work outside South Wales?
Yes. Tourism assignments can be considered across Wales and elsewhere in the UK when the campaign, travel and shooting schedule justify it.

Have a place people need to understand before they decide to visit?
Send the destination, preferred dates, campaign purpose and the features that matter most. The aerial coverage can then be designed around the visitor story rather than a generic flight.
